The First Building Site

For the past two weeks, we have been blessed to have a visitor staying with us.  Dave Bouffard (the one in the green shirt above) came out through some connections from Camp Forest Springs to check out the ministry of New Hope Uganda and specifically the new camp.  We stayed up many late nights talking about experiences at CFS, life in Uganda, issues with the camp, and just life in general.  It was GREAT.  The Lord really used Dave to offer us insight and wisdom regarding different situations that we are facing.  Dave got to visit with many different staff members as well as spending time with some of the kids (Ebenezer family in particular).  By the end of our time with him, he seemed like a long-time friend.

In the middle of Dave’s time here, I went with him and 4 other men to the camp land to further prepare for the first construction project (Pictured above l to r: me, Tim- a surveyor; Dave; Gabe – our construction manager; Alan – one of New Hope’s teenage boys who came to cook and watch over our campsite; Pastor Nswemu – heavily involved in land acquisition; and Albert – one of the security guards).  Below is the site chosen for the first building after we finished clearing it.  The trip was beneficial for another reason as well–we found out that the soil is sandy enough that we will have to use different building techniques than what we were planning.  Always something new…
